Looking for unique party entertainment for children?

Together with my puppets Piggywiggly & Babybird and my handmade puppet stage, I'll come to the venue of your celebration - be it a children's birthday party, a wedding or Grandpa Edward's 70th birthday - to entertain the young guests with:

  • A half-hour show consisting of singing, puppet theatre and telling of the story of Piggywiggly & Babybird.

  • Subsequent craft activity of up to 1.5 hours.

  • Your investment: CHF 500.00 (plus a contribution towards expenses of CHF 80.00*)

Show

The show lasts approximately 30 minutes and includes the singing of Piggywiggly & Babybird's title song, accompanied by me on the ukulele. Depending on their attention and interest, the children are animated to sing along. The actual reading of the story of Piggywiggly & Babybird is introduced and wrapped up by a short puppet theatre, performed on a bespoke puppet stage of 1m x 0.7m.

The main part of the show consists of the telling of the story of Piggywiggly & Babybird. For that purpose the puppet stage is transformed into a large Kamishibai (Japanese for "paper play"), which allows for a large-format presentation of the double-page spreads.

Craft activity

Depending on the age and preference, the craft activity can take up to 1.5 hours. The activity will be based on the story of Piggywiggly & Babybird and will be adapted to the age of the attending children. Instead of a craft activity, a short play could be performed as an alternative.

I will bring:

  • I will bring my puppet theatre utensils as well as the material for the craft activity.

  • I will need about half an hour to set up and then again to dismantle the stage and pack up.

This is what I need from you:

  • A room large enough to accommodate my puppet stage as well as the kids. It is particularly nice if the room can be dimmed to create a special atmosphere, however this is not a requirement.

  • A table and chairs for the craft activity.

  • A power socket within reach.

  • In good weather conditions the event could also take place outdoors (no power needed then).

  • I will come by car and need a place to load and unload the car - ideally as close as possible to the location.

Miscellaneous:

  • The event ideally suits children of up to approximately 9 years of age and group sizes of up to 20 children.

  • If you plan to give the young guests a party gift to take home, I can offer you the book 'Piggywiggly & Babybird and the giant bubble' at a discount of 15.00 CHF per book.

* The contribution towards expenses includes a lump sum for travel (to and from the venue) up to 30 minutes, craft materials, gifts (a copy of the book 'Piggywiggly & Babybird' for the birthday child, soap bubbles and a Piggywiggly & Babybird postcard for all invited young guests). For journeys of more than 30 minutes a surcharge will be applied.

If the offer appeals to you, please get in touch here for more information.

"As feedback I can only say: That was grand! The kids simply loved Piggywiggly & Babyird's visit to our kindergarten. They continue to talk about them a lot and reenact scenes from the story during the breaks.

Debbie is very kind, calm and clear in her communication with the children. She involves them in the story and simultaneously knows how to set appropriate boundaries. It's also great that she accompanies the show musically."

"We recently hosted Deborah Pickering

at the Junior School Campus of the

International School

of Basel. Our Early Years students and staff were delighted with Deborah’s stories and her use of Kamishibai to tell her enchanting stories. The use of songs and puppetry captured the attention of even our youngest children in the dual language program.

Deborah’s books are available in both English

and German and have sparked a lot of interest.

We are looking forward to the next publication

and a repeat visit in the future."
